Leading UK search optimisation agency, SEO Consult®, has reacted to comments made by Matt Cutts in a Google help forum regarding online press releases.
Responding to a comment from a user seeking advice with regards to potential penalties for linking too heavily to one site in a PR, Head of Webspam at the search engine giant Cutts replied from his account “Note: I wouldn’t expect links from press release web sites to benefit your rankings, however.”
Cutt is appearing to suggest with this comment that the links in press releases alone have no adverse affect on a sites ranking, rather it is what bloggers and other news outlets do with the content in these releases that impact on ranking.
Specialist search engine marketing agency SEO Consult® is a Google AdWords certified partner, and works closely with Google to ensure that it is adhering to SEO best practise. SEO Consult® will now review its PR operations as a result of Cutts’ comments.
“At SEO Consult® we work hard to ensure that we are working within Google’s guidelines and best practise methods. This in turn helps us to provide our clients with a truly premium search engine optimisation service,” said Matt Bullas, Managing Director of SEO Consult®. “We will now look at our PR operations and see whether we can improve the impact that they can have on our clients’ sites, as well as to make sure that they are completely compliant with all of Google’s latest recommendations.”
Bullas also said, “Our Research and Development team are conducting a test right now into these claims. Dubbed ‘Test Sreppleasers,’ which itself is an anagram of ‘pressrelease,’ the test hopes to discover the validity of this claim as we have seen the benefit of links within Press Releases before now so expect they do still hold some weight. We will publish our results in due course.”
