Google: how many pages can I add at once?

In an online video, Google’s Matt Cutts answered the question of another Googler, John Mueller. If your website has an archive of hundreds of thousands of pages, should you add these pages at once or in stages?

too many web pages

What was the exact question?

John Mueller asked the following: “A newspaper company wants to add an archive with 200k pages. Should they add it all at once or in steps?”

Matt Cutts’ answer: it depends

Matt Cutts said that Google can handle both methods. If a website releases hundreds of thousands websites overnight, however, it is very likely that the website will be reviewed manually by Google’s spam team.

He recommends that websites should publish new sites in larger blocks and not all of them at once. If all pages are published at once, Google will manually review them, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

What does this mean for your website?

If you plan to spam Google with automatically created websites: don’t do it. If you have many pages with good contents, then you don’t have to worry about a manual web spam review by Google.

If you don’t want to draw attention to your website, you should not publish thousands of pages at once. In that case, you should also reconsider your SEO strategy.

Search engine optimization strategies that are based on cheating Google usually lead to short-term results and a total ban from Google’s results as soon as Google finds out.

If you’re not trying to cheat Google, you don’t have to worry about the number of web pages that you publish. Use safe SEO methods that lead to lasting results. SEOprofiler is a safe SEO tool that only uses search engine optimization methods that play by the rules:
